Feminizing Decentralized Renewable Energy Programs: A Study of a Community Renewable Energy Project from India

The increasing impact of global forces on local communities in the 21st century has necessitated a shift focus from macro narratives to micro-politics planning. One critical areas such is energy policy-making Global South. It argued that bottom-up approach intervention would increase control and access end consumer sites production, away colonial production systems, create more avenues for equitable community development. Within this context, study critically evaluates community-based renewable project feminist perspective. based data provided by Barefoot College International (BCI), which one leading non-governmental organizations working towards fulfilling SDG goals. used document analysis produce rich documentation program under study. Findings indicate current gender inclusion within transition lacks interlocked subordinations exist community, lack intersectionality its model design could potentially reinforce existing inequalities form gendered resource access, livelihoods, labor work. calls further research evaluating decentralized programs examine whether way low-carbon intensive future will outcomes across genders.
